Vienna Vienna was never "on the list" in terms of places we were intending to go, but often times life simply happens on the road and you are forced to go where the winds take you. We found ourselves somewhat stuck in Ohrid, Macedonia and the best option for getting from Ohrid north to Budapest was to fly to Vienna and then take a train from there. So we wound up staying in Vienna for about 5 days to see the city that was once the cultural center of the world.

St. Stephen's Cathedral sits at the heart of Vienna. The structure is massive. It is impossible without a wide-angle lens to get the whole cathedral in one photo.
The Alte Hofburg or Old Castle was the winter residence of the Habsburgs It's opulently decorated with statuary all around The Hofburg sits atop the site of Roman ruins, now partially excavated
The annual Christmas market on the grounds of the Old Town Hall. The elaborate decorations could have been done by Disney. There were even pony rides, but we didn't take one.
The highlight of Vienna was going to the Vienna Opera House. We got the cheap standing room tickets just to check it all out. Standing wasn't too bad, but the seats did look comfy.
