Welcome to Adrienne's FaerieLand

Adrienne in her Faerie Best

Greetings Fellow Travelers!

Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I'm a New York native (the state, not the city), who's been living in Los Angeles for 18 years. I'm lucky enough to be a Halloween baby. Ever since I was a kid, I have loved having a Halloween birthday. It's my favorite holiday!

As for who I a really am outside of facts and dates, well, I've been in search of my life's purpose for most of my adult life. (Does anyone ever figure out what they want to be when they grow up before they actually die? J ) Some time in 1993, I realized that my life seemed unfulfilled, that I was somehow on the wrong path. Though finding my true calling hasn't gone quickly, I've learned a lot of things along the way.

First, I discovered (or rediscovered) a love of travel! Click here to see where I've been

Next my true tree-hugger nature emerged. I realized how important the other beings are that share this planet with us, and I came to dislike how we humans were treating our home. One of the pivotal moments for me was my encounter with a silverback gorilla in Zaire (currently the Republic of the Congo).

Now I'm a vegan. (I was a vegetarian for about 10 years before going full vegan in 2003.) I've been trying to "vote with my dollars" by purchasing the most environmentally friendly options whenever possible. I recycle everything I can. And most importantly, I opened Faerie's Dance, a sustainable clothing company. Sometimes I find it hard to get off my soap box, but I always try to at least make some intelligent arguments while I'm up there.

It took me a while to decide on what direction to take. I spent a few years getting a Certificate in Environmental Studies from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). Check out my school geography project on the reservoir-induced earthquake at Koyna, India. This project was my intro to HTML. My favorite school project was writing a term paper on the Gaia Hypothesis.

Finally, I've been discovering my own spirituality. I was brought up Catholic. At the risk of offending some Catholics out there, I found the religion to be sexist and oppressive. (This of course, is my opinion, and I do not mean to imply that Catholicism is necessarily bad for everyone. It simply wasn't a fit for me.) For years, I called myself an atheist. In the eyes of traditional western religions, I still am. But recently I've redefined that, connecting with nature in a unique way. Although I still don't believe in a sentient being that controls / watches over / created the human race, I've become more of an animist than an atheist, believing instead that each place is special or sacred in its own way, and that each place resonates with a certain energy that can be felt. Check out the spirituality page for more details.
